Join us as we celebrate the launch of our latest Risograph printed publication Kings Heath Calling: A Printed Collection of Zines.
We were approached to design and publish this edition of 10 books, bringing together over 50 zines made by the community of Kings Heath, Northampton. Owing to the nature of this design, each book is completely unique, printed using 7 colours and hand stitched with ink matched book thread.
Members of the community, artists, printmakers, and friends are invited to see the new publication, browse the original zines, and have a go at badge making with proof prints from the book! Light refreshments are provided, and our team will be on hand to discuss all things Risograph too!
Read more about the project:
Artist-researchers from Coventry University (Mel Jordan, Centre for Postdigital Cultures), the University of Northampton (Andy Hewitt), and Middlesex University (Michael Wright) have collaborated with residents of Kings Heath, Northampton, to create zines that explore their needs, desires, and visions for the future of their local area. These collective thoughts, drawings, and ideas have now been compiled into a new book, published by Silly Gooze and launching in April 2025.
Working alongside the West Northants Community Safety and Engagement Team, the Kings Heath Calling project has provided a platform for residents to express their hopes for improving their environment—offering a snapshot of community-led creativity and action. Through free workshops and conversations, participants have embraced the accessible, DIY nature of zine-making to share their perspectives in a personal and powerful way.
The book serves both as a document and a call to action, inviting contributors to offer ideas for the local area. It highlights the importance of community voices in shaping the places where we live. It captures not only individual reflections but also the shared concerns and aspirations that unite Kings Heath residents.
Come along to our book launch to learn more about the project and find out what's happening next!
